On May 19th, Sharp recently announced that its production plant in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima, will produce blue LED chips in mass production during the year.
With the gradual popularization of LED-backlit TVs and LED lighting systems, the demand for LED chips has been further increased. Sharp had previously produced blue LED chips at its factory in Mihara, Hiroshima, in January this year. However, in the long run, Sharp decided that its Fukuyama plant will also begin mass production of blue LED chips and further expand the production facilities of the Mihara plant.
Sharp's total investment in LED chip production will reach 15 billion yen. The Fukuyama plant is scheduled to begin mass production within the year, and the total annual production capacity of blue LED chips will reach 5 billion.
Sharp's Fukuyama factory LED chip mass production program has also been included in Japan's economic, trade, and industrial sectors to promote low-carbon development and job creation. Sharp also hopes to strengthen the research and development of environmentally friendly products through the mass production plan of LED chips.
