After the S7-plcSIM simulation is completed, when the S7-PLCSIM software is closed, the prompt message shown in Figure 1 will appear, asking if you need to save the existing simulation configuration to a configuration file named *.lay.
If necessary, you can confirm by clicking the “Yes” button, and S7-PLCSIM will save the results of this simulation to the ProgramFile\SIEMENS\Plcsim\S7WSI\ARCHIV folder. The saved *.lay document is the hardware configuration, module settings, display and other information of various simulation objects during simulation.

After the *.lay file is saved, S7-PLCSIM will prompt the message "Do you wish to save the current programin a *.plc file?", asking if you need to save the existing emulator to *.plc In the file.
If necessary, the same can be confirmed by the "Yes" key, S7-PLCSIM will save the program of this simulation to the ProgramFile\SIEMENS\Plcsim\S7WSI\ARCHIV folder at the same time; you can also choose to abandon the save operation.
The saved *.plc file is used to save the data set during the simulation run, the actions performed, etc., including the PLC program, hardware configuration, CPU working mode, scanning mode (single loop or continuous scan), I/O The status of the signal, the timing value of the timer, the on/off status of the power supply, and the operating mode of the PLC.
Through the *.lay document and the *.plc document, S7-PLCSIM can realize the aforementioned recording/playback function.
