ARM pushes new CPUs and GPUs designed for VR and AI

British semiconductor company ARM is laying out the growing field of AI and VR/AR. At this year's Computex Taipei, major PC makers all brought their own heavyweights, and ARM also took the opportunity to formally release its own new generation of mobile CPU and GPU designs based on DynamIQ architecture, including Cortex-A75. And Cortex-A55 chip, as well as Mali-G72 graphics card. DynamIQ is a completely re-developed CPU technology by ARM, designed to allow artificial intelligence and machine learning tasks to run locally on the device rather than uploading it to the cloud.

Among them, the goal of the Mali-G72 graphics card is to enhance the performance of VR and AR, mobile games and machine learning. The processor is equipped with a machine learning mechanism that provides rendering frame rates and streaming media responses. VR has a very high requirement for smooth and stable frame rate response, Mali-G72 can well meet the needs of VR.

Compared to the previous generation, the Mali G72 has an energy efficiency improvement of 25% and has been improved in many places, such as graphics fidelity, retinal funnel rendering technology, and ASTC technology. The ASTC technology allows images of unimportant parts to be compressed to reduce processor power consumption.

The Cortex-A75 offers up to a 50% performance improvement over the Cortex-A73 used on current equipment. The Cortex-A75 is designed for ultra-thin notebooks, large-screen smart phones, and other mobile VR devices. The official said Cortex-A75 is also suitable for self-driving cars.

The biggest weakness in mobile VR is its performance and endurance. Since most mobile VR needs to place the phone within the VR glasses case, the high-heating chip reduces the user experience and also reduces the battery life. ARM has improved the processor for the above highlights, and has improved both VR performance and mobile life. This not only improves the user's experience, but also contributes to the progress of the VR industry.
