【summary】
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as " Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.") and Japan Photo Printing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Japan Photo Printing") jointly developed a casing that enables portable devices to have a wireless charging function.

A receiver circuit developed by Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., which is capable of electric field coupling*1 wireless charging , and a sheet electrode with antenna function developed by Japanese photo printing, are installed in the prototype of the smart phone charger.

The thin-film electrodes developed by Japanese photo printing are not only thin and very soft, but also can be made into transparent sheets. When adding wireless charging functions to portable devices such as smart phones, there is no need to change the design of the device. In addition, by installing an electrode sheet produced by the Japanese finishing printing molding technology*2 in this casing, we have successfully improved the transmission efficiency of our wireless power supply module.

The prototype was displayed in "CEATEC JAPAN 2011" at the Makuhari International Convention and Exhibition Center in Chiba Prefecture, Japan from October 4th to October 8th, 2011, and used this product to provide live demonstrations for visitors.

[Background and purpose]
The demand for thinner portable devices and wireless charging functions is increasing. However, there has been a problem in designing a portable device that the size of an antenna that receives electric power affects the thickness of the electronic device. In order to solve this problem, we have successfully prototyped the housing of the built-in electrode with high degree of freedom of design by comprehensively applying the electric field coupled wireless power supply technology of Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and the photofinishing technology of Japanese photo printing.

? A wireless charging of approximately 5 to 10 W can be achieved with a prototype housing.
Since the thickness of the electrode is only about several μm, the wireless power supply function can be added to the electronic device without changing the thickness of the charger case currently being used, thereby providing the user with a high degree of design freedom.
? An insulating protective layer is applied to the electrode portion to ensure product safety.

It is suitable for wireless charging and power transmission of electronic devices such as mobile phones, smart phones, portable music players, portable game consoles, portable devices such as DSCs, tablets, and notebook computers, lighting devices, decorative devices, and home devices.

【 Description of terms 】
1 Electric field coupling method: Electrodes are provided in the power supply part and the receiving part, respectively, and the electric field generated between the electrodes is used to supply power. The electric field coupling method is also called capacitive coupling because of the capacitive coupling effect between the electrodes.

2 Forming Finishing Technology: A technique in which a patterned sheet is placed in a resin molding die, and then the pattern is painted on the molded article while being molded. By using this technology, it is possible to paint a vivid pattern on any 3D shape resin product with a very complicated shape.
